Travel and Lodging

Most people have only one good vacation a year, so they make it a worthwhile one. Some prefer to camp with tents, trailors or RVs other prefer to go in more style. Everyone wants to make thier dollar stretch and look for good value.

Some will stay not to far from home and others plan to go abroad. One should plan months or even years ahead on how to spend thier vacation to make it worth while and memorable. You should plan within your budget.

Some will do most of thier travelling in thier younger years before they settle down. Most will travel with families. Those in thier golden years will probably go on cruises and the like.

With planning one can get better deals in the off seasons. In Canada our snow birds like to head south for the winter to places like Florida. If one were to go just before season starts or at the end of the season you can get better rates. You should plan on extra health insurance just in case you may develop health problems. Do not forget those passports, if they are necessary. Search out what the climate may be like so you can take the proper clothing. You may even be required to get immunization shots depending where you plan to go to. In places like Mexico be careful of what you drink and eat.

People with younger children will take thier vacations during the summer holidays. We started out with a hard top camper and would head out in the summer months and during long weekends. We only stayed in Ontario. The camper would sleep 6 but we found that it was a bit of a chore to set up and take down. We found a lot nice people in the campsites with common interests. We graduated to a camper van, which was easier to get up and go.

As my wife came from a large family we were able to motor across Canada without staying  in many motels and spent time with relations.

Winter vacations can be quite nice, by going to ski resorts. In Canada we have quite a few. Whistler in B.C. and Banff in Alberta are very popular, then there is Collingwood in Ontario.

Cruises can be popular for the more elite. There are large variety to choose from. My wife went on a 10 day cruise up a river in the Ukraine with her niece to get a feel of where her parents came from. Air transportation to and from was a bit of an ordeal.

Back packing and hiking across Europe would be for the youger set, staying at hostels.

Then there is places like Hawii. My wife won a trip to Hawii with this sales group that she worked with. I had to pay for part of my own way. We landed on new years eve and stayed for one week. We were so exhausted after the trip to take in the festivities, that jet lag.

Do not forget to take lots of pictures so that you can remember where you have been. Happy Holidays.
